Tax Preparation

How much does it cost to file my taxes with ProTax?
Our personal tax returns start at $150 for simple W-2 filings. The final cost depends on the complexity of your return — number of income sources, schedules required, number of states, and any additional services. We provide a transparent, firm quote before we begin any work, so there are no surprises. Business returns start at $400. You can see our full pricing tiers on our Services page.
What documents do I need to bring or upload?
Please have the following ready: W-2 forms from all employers, 1099 forms (interest, dividends, freelance income, retirement), last year's tax return, Social Security numbers for you and all dependents, mortgage interest statements (Form 1098), property tax bills, charitable donation receipts, healthcare coverage documentation, and any IRS notices you received. We'll send you a complete checklist after scheduling your appointment.
How long does it take to prepare my return?
Most personal returns are completed and ready for your review within 2–3 business days after receiving all required documents. Complex returns (multi-state, business income, rental properties) typically take 4–5 business days. During peak tax season (February–April), turnaround may extend to 5–7 business days. We always provide an estimated completion date when we receive your documents and notify you immediately when your return is ready.
Do you offer in-person and virtual appointments?
Yes! We offer three service options: In-person at our Manhattan or Brooklyn offices, virtual video consultations via Zoom or Google Meet, and fully remote drop-off where you upload documents through our secure portal and we handle everything without a meeting. Many of our clients across all 50 states use the fully remote option and find it completely seamless.
What if I get audited after you file my return?
All our returns include basic audit protection at no extra charge — if you're audited for a return we prepared, we'll respond to the IRS notice and provide documentation at no additional cost. For full representation (attending meetings, negotiating settlements), our Audit Defense service applies. In 25+ years and tens of thousands of returns, our error rate is under 0.2%, meaning audits stemming from our errors are extremely rare.

Business Tax

Which business structures do you support?
We prepare returns for all business entity types: Sole Proprietors (Schedule C), Single-member LLCs, Multi-member LLCs (Form 1065), S-Corporations (Form 1120-S), C-Corporations (Form 1120), and Partnerships. We also handle nonprofit organizations (Form 990) and estates and trusts (Form 1041). Our business tax specialists have deep expertise in pass-through taxation and entity structure optimization.
Can you help me with back taxes from prior years?
Absolutely. We regularly help clients file late or unfiled returns for prior years. The IRS typically requires 6 years of back returns to be considered "in good standing." We can prepare returns for as many years as needed, often recovering refunds you didn't know were owed to you (there's a 3-year statute of limitations on claiming refunds). We also help negotiate payment plans for any balances due.
Do you handle multi-state tax filings for businesses?
Yes — multi-state filing is one of our specialties. As your business operates across state lines, you may have nexus (tax obligations) in multiple states, each with different filing requirements, apportionment rules, and deadlines. We assess your nexus exposure, file in all required states, and help you minimize your multi-state tax burden through strategic planning. We're licensed to practice in all 50 states.
What accounting software do you work with?
We work with all major accounting platforms including QuickBooks (Online and Desktop), Xero, FreshBooks, Wave, Sage, and NetSuite. Our team includes QuickBooks ProAdvisors who can review your books, clean up your chart of accounts, and ensure your data is tax-ready. If you're not using accounting software, we can set you up with the right tool for your business size and industry.

Payments & Process

What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover), ACH bank transfers, checks, and Zelle. Payment is due upon completion of your return, before e-filing. For clients on monthly bookkeeping or payroll retainers, we set up automatic monthly billing. We can also accommodate payment plans for larger engagements — just ask during your consultation.
Is my financial information secure?
Your security is our top priority. We use 256-bit SSL encryption for all document uploads and transfers, our servers are SOC 2 Type II certified, and we comply with IRS Publication 4557 security requirements. All staff undergo annual security training. Documents are stored in encrypted, access-controlled vaults and destroyed securely after the retention period. We have never experienced a data breach in 25 years of operation.
Can I get a copy of my previous tax returns?
Yes! All clients have 24/7 access to their complete tax return history through our secure client portal. We retain copies of returns we've prepared for a minimum of 7 years, accessible at any time. If you need returns from before your time with us, we can help you request copies from the IRS through Form 4506-T, which typically takes 5–10 business days to receive.
